BOT boys

A children's collection I developed featuring fun robots! I developed several robot characters and icons to place in a pattern and onto children's products. 🤖

Starting these projects always begins in my sketchbook, filling up pages with different ideas as the idea comes to shape.

I started with the idea of having a variety of robot characters based on simple shapes to have strong, graphic silhouettes, each unique but cohesive.

Mag

This fella was probably one of the first characters I had in mind for this collection, but he certainly went through more concepts than any of the other characters. The basic idea being a tiny magnet-shaped head, I played around with shape language until I came up with something fun and unique.

Gajit

The very first character I designed for this project, he acts as sort of the poster child (robot?) of them all. He’s definitely the leader of the pack, though certainly not in terms of size, and the brains of the operation!

Gizmo

Gizmo is definitely the life of the party with his small body, huge eyes full of wonder, and his long loopy arms! Playing around with different types of legs and wheels was a key part of this design. Inspiration for his design came from a gumball machine!

Tank

The tank of the crew, if you will. Though he’s definitely more stout than his robot contemporaries, he’s just as friendly as any of them! His tight arms and body don’t allow for much movement, and his overall shape language was designed to resemble construction equipment and heavy machinery.
